Affordable Corporate Hospitality in London? The answer is Academic.

Here’s the deal.

For £60.00 per person per day you can have all of the following in an exclusive central London location: Room hire from 7:00am to 6:00pm; a selection of teas, coffee, fruit juice, Danish Pastries, and bacon rolls on arrival; mid-morning coffee, tea infusions, and Chef’s home-made biscuits; a bespoke buffet lunch – agreed between you and the venue’s Executive Chef – with orange juice, mineral water and coffee; afternoon tea and coffee with cake; data projector, including the use of a laptop, overhead projector and screen with laser pointer, plus an assurance technician as appropriate; flipchart, pens/pencils and paper; unlimited mineral water, fruit juices, cordials and mints throughout the day; a selection of the day’s newspapers – including the Times, Financial Times, Independent and Guardian; plus the use of an internet connected Personal Computer, printer, fax, Polycom conference phone and VAT.

The catch? The above package is being by a university and the package quoted is the university’s most expensive Day Delegate Rate. It’s most affordable package is just £32.50 inclusive of VAT.

”That’s all well and good,” you think,” but I couldn’t consider recommending a university for a meeting. Everyone perceives that the catering is poor, the facilities tired, and the staff not quite as professional as staff in the commercial sector.”

Not true !

To attract the best and brightest of national and international students, in what is proving to be an increasingly competitive market, many of the U.K’s universities have invested heavily in their facilities to provide prospective students with the latest technology, en-suite accommodation and a more pleasing environment in which to live and study.

With the cessation of student grants and introduction of top up fees, students, today, are becoming discerning consumers who expect the best catering, teaching facilities, accommodation and service levels received from staff – and it is the universities that are able to tick these boxes that will be oversubscribed for students.

Accordingly, many universities are recouping their investment in their infrastructure and staff training, not only through increased student enrolment, but by offering their facilities to event organisers when they are not being used for academic purposes.

As a result, the event organiser is able to enjoy a professional conference service at a fraction of the cost normally associated with a dedicated meetings venue.

If you’re still intrigued, the delegate package itemised at the top of this page is for a day meeting at 170 Queen’s Gate (the Rector’s Residence) at Imperial College London in South Kensington. Recent clients who have used the College for corporate hospitality and meetings include Cirque Du Soleil, the Labour Party, BBC Question Time and MGM United Artists (for the filming of Basic Instinct 2).
