I know that a resume and a CV are the same thing.....but I have never been able to figure out what the letters "CV" actually stands for. Can someone clear that up for me?

"Curriculum vitae" is the Latin phrase to describe a "resume" - literally "the course of one's life". Ah ... the joys of learning Latin.  |

Raindance,
Did you take Latin in high school? And, if so, did your teacher make your class wander around the halls of the school at Christmastime, singing Christmas carols in Latin? Oh, the horror. I had not thought about that horrible experience in years, and it all just came flooding back to me!!

I did learn Latin. I don't recollect singing in Latin, but we were made to talk in Latin in our lessons and read - as a small diversion from Virgil etc - Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh in Latin!
Our lessons began with all of us standing up (mandatory in my very traditional school when a tutor came into the room). Our Latin Master would greet us with "Salve, discipuli" ("Hail, pupils"). It was simply hilarious.
Latin has made quite a come back here in London. There are schools is some of the inner city, more disadvantaged areas, where the pupils learn Latin now, but in a much more fun way that I did. They even make up songs and set them to rap rhythmns.

I also learned Latin in school. The only "song" I remember learning was Baa Baa Black Sheep - some of which I vaguely remember. I think Winnie-The-Pooh would have made a welcome diversion from Caecilius (think that was his name) and the fall of Pompeii. ----------------------------------  |

Caecilius est in horto.  The Cambridge Latin Project! You read about Caecilius as well? Do you remember Grumio the cook? Metella, I seem to remember, was Mrs Caecilius, and Quintus was their son. The only carol to which I know the words in Latin is "O come, all ye faithful". |
