Last week's poll for both the US and the UK was:
Does your manager really know what you do every day? yes 28% no 72%
72% of the people that responded said they don't think their manager knows what they do every day. I tend to agree from my past expereince. Of course my manager knew major projects and what we worked on together but everything else? He never had a clue. I considered it running the office seemlessly. I thought it would make a great Sound Off for the forum. What do you do that your boss doesn't realize you do?

I volunteered to own and create the Belfast pages of our European admin intranet site - to this day I don't think he knows it's there. I am also the MS Office guru for UK & Ireland, and regularly assist my colleagues in the office when required. I am equally responsible for raising internal PO's and managing all transactions under each account eg. stationery, courier, catering, taxis etc.

I tell my boss that he doesn't know 90% of what I do because my work should be so seamless that he doesn't even realize that it had to be done. When I follow up on e-mails that he doesn't see or confirm his travel reservations or train/develop the admins in my area, pay the bills, ect. He's happy not knowing what I'm doing and just knowing that if it needs to be done, I'll do it.
