Actually, my favorite pen in the entire world is the medium Papermate stick pen with the blue barrel. You know - the ones you from the office supply stores for less than $2 a dozen. They just glide across the paper. Second favorite are the Bic round stick medium pens. Blue ink on both.
I've used the expensive pens and they just don't "feel" right to me and I've had bad luck with them skipping. Have you ever tried to catch a skipping pen? It's not easy - their fast little buggers. Guess I'm just an old fashioned girl.
My favorite mechanical pencil is the Crayola brand found at Wal-Mart (about $2 for 6). Love the eraser and the clicker to lengthen the led is at the thumb rather than at the top. The lead is pretty good as well - doesn't seem to break as easily.

I would be using the Mont Blanc "Catherine the Great" fountain pen, made from brass, enamel and 18kt gold. It's a pen that costs about $2100 retail, or a Waterman Edson fountain pen in ruby red that costs about $795 retail, but I usually use a Pentel RSVP since it glides along really smoothly. And ONLY black ink, blue ink gives me a headache.

I'd use the $1200 pen. LOL. Fortunately, though, I love the $.08 medium black Paper Mate Write Bros. pens, so I guess I'll put my $1200 toward the housepayment and a couple of other bills! (But, I'm going to start hanging around Yankeestarbuck, since she seems to be rollin' in the dough!)

My favorite is the Sanford Uniball Get retractable. It's a fat pen, so it fits my hand well. They're about $6 for 5 pens, so it's not the cheapest one available, but I like 'em.

I use the Medium Point Blue Papermates. They are the best and fairly cheap. So our company uses them. I just wish they would not use the click pens. I would rather have the cap. Less mess for me, I'm more likely to wear ink on me with the click pens for some reason.
Pencils, well I like the papermate once again, snapwriter #2. They seem to be fairly good. They are mechanical pencils and they look very similar to a real pencil.
TGIF!

I love plain old fashioned pencils - guess it reminds me of childhood. As far as pens, I use Papermate Flexigrip Ultra - PURPLE. I know it's not the most professional pen color in the world. (For anything seen outside the department, I use the great Papermate blue stick pens). The purple pens are great for two reasons: I can always tell if a note on something is my jotting or someone else's AND it's VERY easy to tell who stole my pen (I have a lot of pen kleptomaniacs here)!!

I use gel pens or one of my fountain pens (I have several old ones that have been renovated). I learned to write with one early, and still prefer the feel of it.
Pencils, I use the old fashioned yellow pencil with a #2 soft lead. I have to sharpen them more often, but they make a nice, dark line and just glide across the page.

Expensive items are not always better. I'm rather partial to my $5.99 Dr. Grip.

Personally I like the quill pen...
Seriously I love some of the Sanford and Boise Cascade pens. They are so comfortable with the padded shanks (I think that's what they call the part you hold in your fingers).

Personally, I don't care, as long as I can get whatever I am trying to write down on paper without skips, blots or smudges.

I prefer the finest tip I can get in black. I like Pilot's fine pens, but usually use a PaperMate Metal Roller with a Micro tip, which is one option we have available to us. (Though they make us feel guilty about it because they are about 3x more expensive than the other ones) If the cheaper ones they bought were fine tip, then I'd use those. But as it stands the eight cent ones are medium point, and I demand fine. Viva La Pen Revolution!

FREE! I have gotten sooooo many pens as company promos from a lot of our business partners and the like, in every various form. And as long as the barrel isn't to thin (don't like Cross pens for that reason) I'll use it. I love the gel pens in the funky colors, they're fun. But if I could pick a "cadillac" of pens, for me it would be a Waterman. Not terribly expensive, but really nice! Levenger also has some great fountain/ballpoint!
Daisylee ( I have as serious pen fetish!)

I love the pharmecutical pens that my husbands best friend gives to us. They tend to be heavier in the hand.
