Is anyone out there using a status report?  I have several managers to report to who may come by and ask call so and so and ask where the quote is or follow up on that order from ABC company.  I hate calling them or running into their offices every little bit to let them know what I have accomplished.  I was thinking of something that I could e-mail them at the end of the day with the particulars of all the tasks they have given me that are outstanding.  Such as I called so and so for the quote you requested.  I got their voice mail.  They will be out of the office until Friday.  I will check then.  See what I mean?  Outlook will send status reports but only for a particular task.  I have so many little things going that I don't want to overflow their e-mail boxes with a bunch of status reports.  I think a good status report would let them know where I stand on tasks and would also help me to keep from forgetting things.  Any ideas?

I would do something akin to an electronic "to-do" list, where you update it periodically through the day, or only electronically at the end of the day and keep hardcopy during the day.  Then send that electronic "report" to the boss'.  This could be printed out for your starting list the next day.  And then it does double duty for you, too.

Yes I agree with CG.  I task myself to do things and sometimes when not yet complete, I add a little note to remind myself what stage it's at or even set another reminder.  Very useful when you're in the middle of something that's ongoing.

When I worked in an ad agency (pre computers etc) we used to do a weekly status report with all the client work in it.  It's not hard to set one up and even easier now you can do it electronically.  It's also good as a CYA document if somebody swears blind they've done something and you know find they haven't, and have it documented!
