Bossie turns 50. I have a a couple of weeks yet. She was a nurse turned attorney, loves music and is into photography. She already has all the gadgets needed, so I'm out of luck there. Her hubby is taking her to HI, however I did the travel stuff last year when they went to Australia. Jewelry not in my budget as I'm trying to keep it around $25 plus make a custom cake with rather expensive ingredients. I'm trying to stay away from the "over the hill" stuff as I don't think it will be appreciated. Thoughts??

I was going to say most women love getting pampered but not sure you would even get a decent manicure for $25. Even afternoon tea for two can be expensive.
Difficult really if you are on a budget but you might be better to go for something that does not signify age. Along with the cake you could add -
- Arrangement of flowers - Yankee candle - Cava or pink champagne

I like the Yankee candle idea, they have some neat holders for the votive size candles and I could get a small assortment of candles. Thanks!

I vote for sentimental. How about a nice little ceramic bowl with a cork lid filled with fifty squares of paper. On each paper, write down one thought for why you like her/working for her. Mind you, this presumes that you do like her. LOL I'm thinking something fun and reusable like one of these: http://debsuniquegifts.com/cewoja.html

I would stick with something useful - like her very own 'roundtuit'!

I had to look up roundtuit - I want my own! That one might carry over to Christmas, unless I get lucky and find one online somewhere.
I love the jars, thinking I might hit up a craft or thrift store to label a piggy bank. They are discriminating against Senior Moments and I'm afraid I would fill up the Blonde Moments to quickly. And the ex employee ashes might give her ideas! But I'm thinking it will be a WTF jar...
I do like my boss, but coming up with 50 reasons sounds like a lot of work!

May be too late, but I got my old boss when he turned the big 50. He wanted to keep it quiet. Rather than make a fuss, I got black golf balls, black tees, a couple of cigars (one black) and Nike Black (actually white) golf balls. Put them in a nice gift bag with a black background and a card that said "There are still sports for Old farts like you" ....He is a sports nut. Baked some brownie bites and apple bread. Had the gift bag and card at his seat prior to his staff meeting and served the goodies. Needless to say, it was low key, but he appreciated it. The team chipped in. No black balloons For my milestone birthday, he brought me a cake, two cards and a gift card. I was pleased since he never acknowledged before.
