My boss is only in the office one day a week so most of the communication is done via telephone or email.  He has his blackberry with him most of the time, so if I can't get him by phone I'll send him an email that he can pick up.

When he is in the office we do sit down for 10 minutes and run through what needs doing, but it's rarely a long list.
