Yes, most employers in the US have "sick days". My employer offers 5 days of sick pay to use through a year and can be used for personal illness, illness in the family or court appearances (not jury duty, that's different). Sick time doesn't accrue the way vacation time does, whatever you haven't used at the end of the year you lose and resets again at 5 days.
