I use gel pens or one of my fountain pens (I have several old ones that have been renovated).  I learned to write with one early, and still prefer the feel of it.



Pencils, I use the old fashioned yellow pencil with a #2 soft lead.  I have to sharpen them more often, but they make a nice, dark line and just glide across the page.
