Hi, LOL! No meeting only email exchange. My No.1 Boss was in meetings all day. So fired a quick email stating a conversation was needed to clarify my role/supporting No.2 Boss. No.1 Boss stated that yes, I was supporting no2 and that if I found that supporting 2 VPs and the Team I should let him know. I actually feel ok with the situ as I have now since spoken to no2 boss, and explained my situ. He totally understood and stated that an initial conversation should have taken place as opposed to presuming I would know the situ. Many thanks for your very excellent and professional advice. I thank you again...a thousand times over. Regards, IDB

I am PA/Team Administrator to a VP in the film/TV industry, based in the West End. The VP has 5x direct reports. I look after the VP, the Direct Reports and a Team of 68 people in my Dept!
Mon 5 Aug an additional VP has joined our Dept and 2x of the Direct Reports will now be reporting into him. Nonetheless we are all still based in one office.
I was never told about the additional VP coming on board up until two weeks ago. I have set him up in his office on systems and ordered his new laptop, phone etc. I've been asked to set up a meeting on his behalf, which I don't mind doing on the odd occasaion, however, emails are now coming through to me asking me about his availability and stating that they were contacting me as they were told I was supporting him!
My original VP has never spoken to me about supporting the new VP and neither has HR. I have been here just over a year and my contract does not state that I would be working for more than 1x VP. Do I approach my VP or HR about this situ?
Any advice, gladly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi Gee, 2nd Interview went well, in the same environment. No awkward/personal questions were asked. Unfortunately, they decided to go with another candidate for the role.............sigh! Thanks for the initial advice, it was very helpful. Regards,

Thanks Gee, No panel just MD, Accountant (which is ok), but the others were employees, ie other Assistants. A ball park figure on the salary was mentioned, only via email on my initial application. I've noted your comments and as you say, employers normally state specifics when they actually make an offer. I appreciate your time in getting back to me to and.......I can now "see the wood, for the trees!" Thank you again. Regards

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / INTERVIEW ENVIRONMENT?
|

Hi, I'm in a fortunate position, that I have today, secured a 2nd interview for an Assistant role. The company has a maximum of 10 people, therefore is open plan and is a company I would really like to work for. There is only one office which is where the MD and 4 others sit, including the Accountant. I had my 1st interview last week which took place in the office alongside the MD and 4 other people. I felt a little uncomfortable at first but as we were only going through past roles and responsibilities it was ok. Tomorrow's interview I'm pretty sure, will take place in the MD's office to discuss salary, hours, etc. I really don't want to discuss this sort of thing in front of other people, other than the MD. If this should happen how do I ask to be interviewed elsewhere as I don't want to sound rude or impolite and shatter my chances of securing this role? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

What a complete WASTE of your time and preparation for such an establishment. Glad to hear that you are not too disappointed in getting the role but at least you know the other candidate felt exactly the same. Good luck in your search for a new role.

Many, many thanks Jackie, Cathy & gee4 - It's sooooo refreshing and importantly reassuring to hear what you've got to say as I thought I was being overly-sensitive.
Gee4, I really like your last paragraph it did make me smile and boy would I like to take that approach but as I said I'm biting my lip, literally, as i don't want to jeopardise my position as I'm still "only a temp" under contract until Oct 09.
Thanks again guys.

Hi Rose, my partner said exactly the same thing, that it's a form of bullying! I dismissed it and thought he was talking out of his hat!!! Now you've reiterated that statement........it's making me wonder.
Blimey, the things us Assistants have to sort out and then some. Thanks again Rose. Appreciated and have noted your comments on the subtle but firm approach.

Hi Jackie G - thanks for that. Apologies for sounding a little dim. You stated that I should say Good Morning and following with a query to one then the other, do you mean "good morning, did you have a nice evening?" Sort of thing! If you are have tried that and get mono-syllabic answer(s)!
Boss doesn't know about the situ as he comes in after they have arrived! My contract ends next month and they are looking to try and keep me on. If I am fortunate to stay, I will surely sit down with my Boss and explain the "team" situ, but don't want to come across as a "dragon" or "non-team player" or even as "rocking the boat!" AAaaargghhh dilemma!

Thanks guys - I really appreciate your advice/feedback on my post. I have really tried to be "grown up" about this and yes I have made a point of saying "good morning" but one of them ABSOLUTELY ignores the sentiment just blatantly walking past my desk to sit down. Now I know for a fact she is definately not deaf!!! LOL
Thanks again for your comments, I really do appreciate it.

I started a temporary position back in Oct 08 within a team of 4 other people. I'm an EA and have a great working relationship with my boss and his "side-kick" yet the other two members of the team (considerably younger than myself) totally ignore or refuse to speak to me directly concerning my Boss' diary, day to day happenings etc. They speak to him direct when I know he would rather say to them speak to me direct.
They don't acknowledge during the day not even a good morning! I've been working as an Assistant for over 20+ year so why are these two individuals making me inferior and pretty non-existent at the end of EVERY day!!
Aaaarrgghh!!
