Ooooh, I feel for you.  I HATE making those kinds of calls.  "Hello, I'm calling to tell you I don't have an answer for you."  I mean, really now, what a waste of time, right?

Make the call anyway.  You're just "keeping them up to date" on what's happening.  Some people just like to "know the latest", even when the latest is nothing!  It also covers your behind.
