I'm sure I should know this but I'm having one of those days. Which of these is correct:
I have a MCP qualification I have an MCP qualification
I think that the 2nd one is correct, but couldn't think why when it was questioned (other than it sounds better).

Smitkit hi
The 2nd one is correct (eg an MP, an NCO etc (not a MP or a NCO)). It only becomes a when not using abbreviations (a Member of Parliament, a non-Commssioned Officer etc)

Smitkit,
It would be the latter. In initials, when a consonant makes a vowel sound, (as the M makes the short e sound) you would use an.

Definitely the second! As for anyone questioning what a secretary does, tell them you don't question their work (unless you do of course!)
I once had a client who was writing a report about NGOs (non governmental organisations) - because she was taking part of her report from someone's CV, she simply read out to me what they put, and said, oh NGOs has an apostrophe - I said it didn't, and she said, this guy is really high powered, do what he has written. I of course refused and backed up my argument, so she backed down.
Moral: Just because somebody is high powered in their job, doesn't mean they have a good grasp of grammar - or spelling!

Ditto! They are highly educated and intelligent when it comes to business, but they can't spell or form good sentences. We are the behind-the-scenes people hired to make them look good.

Don't get me wrong - I don't have a problem with that, especially now that I'm self employed and my clients actually ASK and VALUE any opinions etc that I offer, and DEPEND on me to double check their (already excellent) report layouts so as to make sure they're 110% professional in appearance.

Oh I know. I was agreeing with you that although they have good content in their reports and such, they still need help with grammar and spelling. That's why they hire Admins.
