Hi All!

I'm in a quandry!  I've applied for a job to work in a Charity... the only thing is, I've ALWAYS worked in the Public sector.  I wonder if the setup for the interview, etc, is going to be different to the usual?

Do any of you work for a Charity at the moment?  I'd love an insiders view!

I had a couple of interviews last year with charitable organisations before I was offered my current post.  I would have assumed charities came under the public/voluntary sector.

The interviews I attended weren't any different from the norm so it would depend on the type of role you are applying for eg. admin role, finance role or a PA role working 1:1.

I worked for a non profit making company that only had clients (companies) who worked in the non profit making and charity sector and the interviews they conducted were exactly the same as any other interview I have been for in either the public or private sector.

I seem to remember that as we were mainly dealing with charities, many with low paid staff, they were keen on your views for this sector and wanted to know that you had an understanding of the type of problems faced and that you knew you weren't coming into a big corporate company such as Shell etc, and the morals, work ethics they had in place reflected this.

Best job I ever had and I wish I was still there.  Sad

I worked for a national charity for almost 10 years.   I loved my job but long hours because there was no money for more staff and low pay finally took its toll.  The thing I found hardest to deal with was the time it took for decisions to be made because it was run by committees.  Would I do it again?  Yes!

Hope interview goes well, Dippa .  Keep us updated.

Sorry, did not mean to come across as 'down' - just frustrated that after spending 10 years in a job I loved I cannot find anything to match it - I'm going to keep on trying tho  Cheesy

Hey Cathy

There is a job out there with "Cathy17" written all over it and another with "CathyS" stamped across the job description - our new bosses just haven't met us yet!  Grin

I'll keep smiling if you do too ...

Cathy

Grin Yes, Cathy - and when they do, they'll wonder how they ever managed without us !!  Cheesy

I've decided to have a massive push before Christmas - the agencies I am with have said to me don't expect any new jobs to come up before Christmas now which is not want I want to hear so have decided to look on company websites direct.

Can't afford to sit and wait so will hunt out the jobs myself.  I need to be pro-active and feel that I am doing lots to move things on.

Keep on smiling CathyS  Grin
