On October 16th it is National Boss's Day. I know there are many for and against Administrative Professionals/Secretaries/Office Professional Day, but what do you think of this Boss's Day? Do you buy a card, sit down and talk, do something nice? Do you think they get enough perks as is? Let us know what your thoughts about this day are..

My personal opinion is that every day is boss's day. However, I have been known to bake cookies for bosses that I liked.

Mine likes things simple, so a good dose of gummy bears and a card will do him just fine. Keeps him sugar happy, LOL! I'm still doing the gummy bears, but, we just had a group meeting of all his "direct" reports, we're going to do a cider/dougnuts/bagels & card thing tomorrow (provided I don't forget to in the morning, LOL). Which is really nice, and still keeping it simple. Diamondlady Peer Moderator Edited by diamondlady on 15/10/07 08:05 PM.

This is my first "boss's day" at this company, but I will do what I have done in every previous post: nothing. I prefer not to celebrate any holidays in the workplace, be it birthdays, admin assistant day, boss's day, xmas, etc. I just prefer not to give or receive gifts in the office. I give respect, expect it in return, and will do excellent work for any boss, because that is my job.

Thanks for the reminder! I'm a baker - so I will make a cake for the office. I often bring in food or stop and pick up breakfast biscuits as a treat (chicken biscuit - don't knock it until you tried it One fast and easy lemon pound cake!

I find a certain irony in realizing that I have just given my notice to my boss on bosses day. LOL

Definitely ironic Marieh, hope it's good news for you ... I gave my boss a card and a gift card today, plus got cards and gift cards for my 4 Directors. They were all surprised, they're not technically my bosses but I wanted to do something nice for them. Plus they always give me flowers and cards on Admin Day so it seemed fair.

I brought up a group luncheoun to celebrate Boss' Day but didn't receive much response. So I replied to the group via email saying that the luncheon was canceled. Lo and behold, reverse psychology worked and we got almost everyone in the office to pitch in time or money to decorate, buy the food and gifts. The catch was, it was a surprise. So yesterday, one of our boss' assistants told him there was a meeting in a conference room. Of course, everyone was hiding there. Once he arrived, we all yelled Happy Boss' Day! He was very surprised and appreciative. He's even wearing the tie we got him today. It was great fun.
I'm thinking we need to surprise one of the other boss' for next year. What do you think?
