Hi all
long time since i have posted and not good news!
Well i work for three direcotrs and on Friday one of them said he wanted a talk with me, at about 3.30pm so I sat down and he said, as you know the business is changing and as my role has changed and therefore they had discussed it between the three of them and decided that they thought it best to offer me redundancy! i was absolutely gobsmacked!
Apparently they would offer me a substantial redundancy package - hmm believe it when i see it and one of the bosses was going to employ a professional who could help him as i couldnt (cheeky!) and here is the good part, the other boss wanted to employ an assistant who could do banking and finance as they felt i couldnt and they would get a receptionist in to answer the phones and do the filing!
So there you have it! I am still in shock! 7 years i have given them and they dismiss me!
The thing is one of the directors wasnt in all day which i thought strange and then he came in at 5.20pm just to have a drink of water!
Anway he said to me that hei believed that the other boss had spoken to me and I said yes and that I was very sad, surprised and disappointed. I asked what had i done and I didnt want to go but if all of you were hell bent in getting rid of me then what could i do! You should have seen his face! tee hee.....
so anyway, thats the story, nothing i can do because they said if i wanted to stay on as a receptionist and take a substantial pay cut then that was up to me but he thought that i wouldnt want to do that.
So other boss back on Monday and I dont know what he is going to say but if the offer is not subtantial as been promised then i will be making a fuss and stamping my feet! lol...... he mentioned that the payout would mean that I could take my time on deciding what i wanted to do so i dont know what to think!
Thing is it could be end of August or end of September but I have now applied for loads of jobs since Friday so something may come up and I am not being discreet either! I tell you the filing has taken a back seat.... tee heeee.
Anyway, ill be in touch and let you know the next stage but if anyone has any thoughts on what i should do etc please let me know.
regards
lynnk

Wow, Lynn. This sounds awful. It's just the kind of thing I'm expecting to happen to me, due to some changes that have been happening at my workplace. Take a deep breath and hold on to whatever job you end up with there. You'll be much more confident going into interviews WITH a job than without one. Without one, you'll appear much more desperate. I'm sorry to hear this--but it seems to be happening everywhere. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors....and keep us posted. Movinonup

Lynn,
This is not redundancy. This is something very different, and I have sent you a pm.

I'm with Raindance on this one - it's definitely not redundancy and you shouldn't let them off the hook so easily.
Good luck!

Hi Lynn,
Just catching up on some posts I missed, while I too have been on the lookout for jobs since being made redundant in May. Been through it several times but it doesn't get any easier especially when you don't expect it.
Not sure your job is being made redundant but sounds like you definitely are. I mean if your employer choses to split your job in 2 and half the salaries, I guess in a way your job still exists but soon 2 people will be doing it, correct?
Hope the others can give you more advice here. Just remember, have your CV updated ready to apply for those jobs. Heaven knows I have pestered every recruitment company in the country until they are sick hearing from me and have to get me off the phone and into a job.
Patience is a virtue and if you start the ball rolling now, you cannot lose. I am confident enough to gain the job I want, all you need is the determination to prove it to a potential employer. I have had some horrible looks at interview when I mention that I have recently been made redundant...you'd think I had some kind of incurable disease that was catching.
Good luck and let us know what happens!
G
