If your boss was in a meeting that was running late - ie after your normal home time would you stay back until the meeting finishes?

No, not unless he asked me to.  Why?  Are you expected to attend and take minutes?

I leave work at the same time every day unless I need to finish a task, regardless of where my boss is.

Unless I think there is a specific reason (i.e. dinner being ordered and I want to be there when the caterer arrives) or my boss specifically asked me to, no, I would see no reason to stay late for that.

I have on occassion stayed late in case I felt there may be information needed from me. I go with my instinct depending on the subject of the meeting.

Not at all Gee and I never take minutes at meetings, my boss takes his own.

I just saw that the meeting late yesterday afternoon was running late and decided to wait back until it was over to see if my boss needed anything after the meeting as I knew he was going to be out of the office today.   Considering most days I finish at 4.30pm and I am home 15 mins after that I really don't mind staying back on occasions

Peaches - quite agree with what you do.  I do the same.

You know something though, it was a blissful hour of peace and quiet until the meeting finished as everyone else in the office had gone home, the phones didn't ring and I got masses done!

I certainly don't stay late at work unless I absolutely need to, and wouldn't stay if a meeting was running late unless, again, it was really required.  That would only happen in exceptional circumstances, I am sure.

Considering your boss was going to be out of the office the next day, and you're only 15 minutes from home, it sounds like you went with your gut instinct.

I've noticed in my organization that late-day meetings (beginning after 4PM) usually end with 30 minutes or so of "shooting the breeze", either in the conference room, or at a bar over drinks.  That's fine for them, but I wouldn't hang around for it.

Usually my boss would go into a late-day meeting tell me he'd see me the next day, the implication being that I wasn't expected to hang around past my normal hours.  Of course, we have 24 hour security in the building so if there was a real problem, there were folks onsite who could help.

I am in that situ now, I officially finish work in 15 mins, but my boss is still in a meeting and as I lent him a laptop to use in his meeting I don't want to leave until I have got it back.  Not that anything would happen to it but knowing my luck...

Not unless she asked me to, or I am working on something with a deadline.
