Go Green! Reduce Your Carbon Footprint With These Easy Steps

Now, more than ever before, we are becoming aware of how our actions have an effect on the environment, how small changes in the way we live our lives can have a huge effect on the amount of CO2 emissions we are responsible for. Here are some helpful tips about practical steps you can take to live green.

  1. Turn It Off
Get several extension leads to plug in all of your non-essential appliances, such as mobile phone chargers, computers, blow dryers. Turn the power off when you are not using these items. If we were all to do this, it would save millions of tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
  2. Pump It Up
Check your tire pressure regularly. Maintaining the recommended pressure for your vehicle can save you money by reducing tire wear, increasing your fuel economy by up to three percent and saving hundreds of kilograms of CO2 per year. Find the correct tire pressure for your vehicle listed on the inside of one of the front doors.
  3. Up Your Efforts
Did you know that home energy is responsible for over twenty percent of our global warming pollution? Try turning off unnecessary lights, running the dishwasher less often, insulating walls and ceilings, buying energy efficient light bulbs and upping your recycling efforts.
  4. On Your Bike
In addition to keeping an eye on your tire pressure, take a bike or public transport to work. Also, engines that are properly cared for are less harmful to the environment. Transportation pollutants are responsible for more carbon dioxide emissions than homes or factories!
  5. Car Share
Cutting out those non-essential car journeys or car sharing can help you make huge CO2 savings.
