Tristar Worldwide recognised for its safety excellence...as it introduces innovative new features to its high-tech fleet

Reflecting its commitment to passenger safety, Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services was highly commended in the Company Driver Safety category at the recent Fleet Safety Forum Awards 2012 organised by Brake, the road safety charity.  Meanwhile, the company has started taking delivery of new Volvo cars equipped with innovative safety features including the latest Blind Spot Info System (BLIS) and Xenon lights.

Tristar Worldwide continually invests in its fleet of luxury vehicles to deliver outstanding service with a strong emphasis on health and safety.  The BLIS is a camera-based high tech system that detects the presence of vehicles in rear blind spots and alerts the driver to any danger, providing a watchful eye that clearly reinforces safety while driving. The Xenon lights offer drivers a better night time drive experience as they are up to three times brighter than halogen headlights and provide a much more uniform intensity.

Continual investment in its fleet is just one of the measures Tristar undertakes to ensure it delivers a safe and secure experience for its passengers worldwide. Its chauffeurs are trusted to be the best on the road, with a six day induction program and ongoing training programmes to hone their advanced navigational and driving skills. All vehicles have GPS tracking devices installed which, in addition to helping improve operational efficiency, allows proactive reporting of chauffeur working hours, rest breaks and travelling speeds to ensure adherence to strict company H&S policies. The company also employs a full time Road Safety Manager to continually assess and improve driving standards.

The majority of the Volvo fleet is also equipped with the City Safety System, which helps in completely avoiding collisions at low speed or at least substantially mitigating the consequences. City Safety works with a laser sensor in the upper portion of the windscreen and responds to vehicles at a distance of up to six metres and is active at speeds of between 4 and 30 km/h. If the system establishes that there is a danger of collision when the car in front performs a sudden braking manoeuvre or because of a stationary vehicle, the car's own brake system swings into action. If the driver fails to respond to the danger situation, emergency braking is automatically initiated with a deceleration between 50 and 100 percent of the available brake friction force.

This focus on safety has resulted in a 30% reduction in collisions over the last 24 months.

Dean De Beer, CEO of Tristar Worldwide, said: “As a global market leading chauffeur service, we place health and safety at the very top of our priorities and we are genuinely delighted to see our efforts rewarded. New technology solutions like the ones we are implementing, combined with our highly trained and professional chauffeurs support our focus on safety. With the addition of these Volvos to our fleet we will continue to deliver a trusted and secure experience for our clients.”

In April this year, Tristar Worldwide was awarded a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in recognition of its outstanding achievement. The annual awards, made by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, are the UK’s highest accolade for business success.
