Best Western Get Up and Go campaign

Who knew there was such a thing as Wellie Wanging, Bog Snorkelling and the Knaresborough Bed Race?

The UK is home to some of the world’s most weird and wonderful events demonstrating all that is great about Great Britain, including Black Pudding Throwing, Pea-Shooting and even the Egg Throwing Championships.

To celebrate exactly that, Best Western, the UK’s largest group of independently owned hotels, has announced its Year of Get Up and Go campaign for 2012. The group, who pride themselves on their portfolio of Hotels with Personality, aims to get the nation up and about; discovering new and interesting things throughout the course of the year.

Everybody knows this is a big year for the UK’s sporting agenda and Best Western want to celebrate this in their own ‘personality’ way by showcasing the more unusual and interesting events that truly make Britain an island of diverse personality. So, whether it is the National Honey Show in Weybridge, the Southport Flower Show, or the St Andrew’s Golf Week, the UK really has something for everyone.

A section of the Best Western website is dedicated to the Year of Get Up and Go to allow users to find events, attractions and the perfect hotel across the UK. Holidaymakers simply search a region and time of year in order to find out what is happening in that area. The local Best Western hotels will then be listed alongside in order to book a Year of Get Up and Go break. www.bestwestern.co.uk/YOGUAG

To make the process easier, the events have been categorised into Science & Knowledge, Music & Nightlife, Lifestyle, Weird & Wonderful, Kids & Family, Arts, Sports & Outdoors and Festivals & Heritage.

Tim Wade, director of marketing at Best Western, said, “This year is a huge one for the UK and is all about celebrating Great Britain’s diverse and unique personality. The Year of Get Up and Go is giving the nation the chance to really see what this country has to offer. Many will be surprised to learn what unusual events and attractions lie just minutes from their own doorstep.“
