'Natural wine' showcases at Dego' London

Supporting the Natural Wine Fortnight from 9 to 22 May – a brand new initiative to promote natural wines in the UK – degustation restaurant and bar Dego’ at Oxford Circus has some stunning wines lined up, all available by the glass.

With the highlight of the fortnight being the Natural Wine Fair, described as the UK’s biggest ever gathering of natural wine growers from 15 to 17 May at Borough Market, Dego’ is part of an elite 100 restaurants nationwide, renowned for their wine list, which have been invited to participate in the promotion. Although the requirement is to offer a minimum of one white and one red wine by the glass from any of the 120 growers attending the fair, Dego’ will showcase four.

Behind Dego’ is former Hakkasan sommelier Massimo Mioli, who opened Dego’ last October and has already achieved two AA rosettes. With the name coming from the word degustation – an appreciative tasting of foods – and o’ from osteria – a term for a no-fuss urban Italian style bar, Dego’ has an extensive wine list already big on organic and biodynamic wines, many of which are imported directly from Italy.

Mioli comments: ’Surprising but true, most wine produced isn’t natural. But natural wines are just that, natural, made without the use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyard and few, if any, additives in the cellar. Here at Dego’ we are as passionate about wine as we are about food, and are keen to offer these new wines to our guests, and bring them back for more’.

The wines will be available on their own, with dishes from the bar menu or with the full a-la-carte restaurant menu, which offers a special wine and food pairing. Taking its inspiration from North East Italy and from the towns of Vicenza and Venice in particular, Dego’ is arguably the only restaurant in London to offer the speciality ‘Bigoli’, a hollow pasta made with the ancient ‘bigolaro’  hand-operated  machine regularly used in the restaurant.

Dego’ is at Portland House, 4 Great Portland Street (corner of Market Place), Oxford Circus, London W1W 8QJ
