I have just been informed by my boss that I will have to organize and attend a meeting in Dallas.  As usual, I will have to book catering and one "fun" night.  Unfortunately, since I am in Ottawa, I have no idea about caterers or restaurants in Dallas - any suggestions?

We will be a group of 30+ people.

What kind of meeting will it be?  When will ya'll be coming to Dallas?  I live in the DFW area, and can suggest a few things but I need to know when you will be down.

It's called a "managers' meeting".  The manager of each team gives a presentation of what is, was and will be with their team.  I will need to cater snacks (mid morning and mid afternoon) and lunch.  The dates are March 4 & 5.

My boss wants me to organize a "fun" evening event the night of March 4.  I'm thinking dinner at a nice restaurant - forget dancing we will be 6 women and 25 men!  Some of the participants are from Dallas or Texas while some are not.

Please DO NOT order any cold temperatures for that week.  I get plenty of that here.  But if you could give me some insight into what the weather would be like early March it would help me with my packing.

Thanks!

First off, March is the begining of the 1st summer we have here (1st, 2nd, & Hades), so don't worry about cold weather.  Just make sure you pack a light jacket for at night.  Jason's Deli would be the best place to have cater, and they are on the web.  www.jasonsdeli.com

As for fun, try going to a place like SpeedZone (racing), or take a trip to the WestEnd (dinner & shopping).  If your guys can handle the odd side of life, Deep Elum would also be good (clubs, shopping & street vendors/artist).  Dallas also has quite a few good local bands.  The Bronco Bowl is another good one (big club/bowling alley/ arcade...)

Thanks for the information about the weather.  I have been know to go to places thinking "It's south, it's gotta be warm" and then packed too many light clothes.

What about "Medieval Times"?  My boss just suggested that to me over the phone.  Is it fun or hokey?

If you're going to be there for 2 days, including one night, the hotel you book should be able to take care of your catering needs. They all have event staff so check with them first. They can also probably recommend a place for your group to have dinner. Any concierge will have lots of information and suggestions.

Actually, the we are having all our meetings at our offices down in Dallas but the conseirge would be a good contact for the "fun" night.  Great idea.  Do you think a DoubleTree hotel would have a consierge though?  I'll have to call and find out.

Which Double Tree is it?  That might help with planning the time.  If you're near the DART Light Rail, it should be real easy and cheap to get downtown.

I went to Medieval Times in Orlando this past July and had a blast!  It was a thrilling performance complete with real weapons.  My son wasn't too impressed until he saw sparks flying during the combat portions.  They tried to make it feel like you had actually stepped through time, and it almost felt like it.  I would definitely go again.

Okay, I found out that I will be at the DoubleTree Campbell Centre.  In the mean time, my boss has decided against Medieval Times and would like to do "Texas Barbeque".  Any new suggestions?

(yes, he is fickle - don't even ask about booking flights for him!)
