I know how you feel.  Sometimes I get frustratingly bored here because my boss is mostly in meetings.  I mean 5 out of his 12-hour days, literally.  He's never in his office, so I had to become proactive and find things to do.  Filing is my LEAST favorite thing to do, but it happens to be my boss' pet peeve so I began auditing the files...6 months ago.  I'm halfway through and it's great.  When I get bored, pull out a file folder and get to work.  I'm always occupied now.  I say, ask your boss if there's anything he thinks needs doing and get to it.  He may be impressed by your initiative.
