I like it because it's one of the few times I am recognized. But I think I'd rather have a lot of smaller verbal "thank yous" throughout the year and then give me a bigger increase in salary. Admins are the heart of most companies, yet we're often paid the least of any position. I don't see how CEOs can make millions, yet their assistants make less than $60K. Maybe I'm just in the wrong industry!

I work in a cubicle environment and the biggest issue I see are people visiting other people's cubes. The stop-by visitor is very big. For me, it's more of Internet surfing when I think of something I wanted to look up or was curious about. Sometimes I'll email my home email to look it up later that night, but a lot of times I can't wait!

3  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Non Office Related This Week - Summer Movies on: July 17, 2007, 11:59:09 pm
We have looked forward to a lot of movies this summer. My husband and I are huge comic book movie fans (even though we're in our 30s!), so we have seen Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Four 2, Shrek 3, Pirates 3, plus some others like 1408 and Transformers (which we might see again). We will see Harry Potter this coming weekend. We have been lucky enough to find theaters that offer $4 tickets before noon on weekends, so we'll enjoy an 11:00 a.m. show and then go out for lunch!

It only matches about 25%.  Unfortunately, all of the Admin job descriptions where I work are the same, even for different levels and different departments.  They're all very, very vague and general.
