1  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Assignment Board? on: August 14, 2006, 06:39:50 pm
I am not supposted to be his direct support. I am the administrative assistant for the corporate staff, the executive assistant is his direct support. Also he will not use computer programs, everything he does is on paper. We have told him that he needs to give us a due date and he said that he will work on that. I hate to say this but everyone here says it, he doesnt understand that we have others things to do that are more important.

2  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Assignment Board? on: August 14, 2006, 02:17:28 pm
I hope that I am not repeating a topic. I am the administrative assistant for the corporate staff of my company, our offices are separated and I am housed with our CEO and my boss his executive assistant. Our problem is that we do most work for the CEO but he does not understand that we have our plates full sometimes with work from coworkers. We were thinking of getting something like a white board and being able to write down what we are working on that day and then our CEO would know what we have on our plates for the day. Does anyone have any suggestions on this idea, or something that works for you? I would love anyones thoughts. Thank you.

I try to order the most cost effective items but I still try to have fun with it. One item that I recently recieved as a promo is a box of red, white, and blue paper clips, they were really neat.

4  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Personal Arrangements for Boss on: June 01, 2006, 03:37:28 pm
I was just reading something about whether it is ok for Admin Professionals to do personal things (make personal travel arrangements, send out personal mail, copy/print personal documents, run personal errands, etc.) for their boss. I have to do some of these things for my boss and sometimes it makes me feel like a slave and unappreciated. How do the rest of you feel, is this acceptable?

5  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: How do you dress for work on: May 30, 2006, 09:53:52 pm
I usually wear a pant suit or a skirt suit (skirts at the knee or longer) I will also wear khakis or black slacks with a nice sweater or a company polo and of course black socks and dress shoes. I do think that a persons dress has an impact on their professionalism. I just recently posted on a problem with my age and a lot of people made suggestions on my dress. I have always been aware of my dress because I have always been taught that a persons dress shows their professionalism and represents the company. A horror story that I have happens almost every day, a girl that works in a different department always wears khakis that are hugging her hips and shirts that sit right above her belly button. It just looks horrible and does not give the company a good image, I know that people from different departments have talked to her about it but I dont know if her supervisor has brought this up with her. I just dont understand how people can go to work and expect people to take them seriously when they cannot even dress properly for their position.

6  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Questions for Lurkers.... on: May 24, 2006, 06:30:24 pm
I just discovered this site and I think that the forum is great. I dont think that those who post are intimidating at all and I mostly lurk to find solutions to problems that I may already be encountering or will encounter someday, also to see if I can give anyone advice. The topics are great, keep them coming.

I started out at my company as a high school co-op and then was offered a job as the Administrative Assistant for the coporate office. I have a lot of experience in this field from work experience, seminars, college and high school classes. I am still quite young and feel that my co-workers treat me differently because of my age. One thing that happens quite a bit is that I get put on the back burner when I request things. One of my bosses even told me that she sees this happening and knows that I stuggle with it but I feel like she sometimes does it to me herself. The one thing that really bothered me recently is that all of the assistants are going to a 4 day seminar and my boss (CEO) said that I did not need to attend. I dont think that this is happening with only me, I have seen younger workers treated differently in other departments also. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?
