Hi everyone

This might not come as too much of a surprise as I’ve not been around much recently, but I’m leaving my post as UK editor of DD.

I’ve had a great time here, and I’ve loved seeing the site develop, but basically I’ve decided to take my career in a new direction. After some great years as a journalist  I’m moving into public relations – hopefully giving myself a fully rounded media career. Well that’s the plan anyway!

Like I said, I’ve had a ball at DeskDemon, and you’re not totally getting totally rid of me as I’ll still be contributing to the site – don’t be surprised if you still see my name cropping up occasionally!

You guys have a fantastic community here and I hope it continues for many years to come. I’d like to say thanks to our super efficient moderators who keep The Hub on the straight and narrow, and who’ve helped me so much in my time here. Of course my US counterpart Susan will still be here, and I know she’ll continue to do a fab job (you owe me one for that shout out Susan!!) Thanks also to the whole tech team, especially Basma who has to put up with me on a daily basis, and Adam who used to before he managed to escape to the US!

Basically I want to say keep up the good work to everyone, and that includes every member of the community. You guys have created a brilliant resource here and I’m sure it will continue to thrive long after I’ve hung up my editor’s cap.

Anyway, I think I’m in danger of rambling on now.

All the best everyone.

Sounds like the workshop will be a nice break from the rotten time you've had at work recently. Fingers crossed that something much better turns up for you

3  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Week of May 2nd: Are you a morning person? on: May 04, 2005, 05:46:48 pm
I would miss mornings out completely if I could. Sometimes I think that if I could get up a little earlier, I would be functioning on full throttle earlier too. But that's the problem with being a night owl - staying up too late getting everything done means that it's difficult to get out of warm and cosy bed any earlier the next morning!!

I'll be updating the Advice section on the UK site with new hints & tips very soon, so if you have any hot tips that you'd like to put forward, and you fancy winning a Brother p-touch labelling machine, mail me in the next day or two. Otherwise you'll have to wait til next month for your chance to win

Just a quick reminder everyone.

As I'm sure you're well aware, today is the last day of Professional Secretaries/Admin Professionals Week, so if you haven't entered the prize giveaways on either the UK or US sites this is your last chance!

If you have entered already - good luck!

6  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Corporate cannibals on: April 29, 2005, 01:04:18 pm
You might have heard this one already, but one of our users just sent it to me, and I thought it was a good Prof Secs /Admin Prof Week joke!

Some cannibals were recently hired by a big corporation. "You are all part of our team now," said the HR rep during the welcoming briefing. "You get all the usual benefits and you can go to the cafeteria for something to eat, but please don't eat any of the other employees." The cannibals promised.

Four weeks later, their boss remarked, "You're all working very hard, and I'm satisfied with you. However, one of our secretaries has disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?" The cannibals all shook their heads no.

After the boss left, the leader of the cannibals said to the others, "Which one of you idiots ate the secretary?" A hand raised hesitantly, to which the leader of the cannibals continued, "You fool! For four weeks we've been eating managers and no one noticed anything, but nooooo, you had to go and eat the secretary!"

Whew, it certainly seems like a hectic time at your company - hopefully it will be interesting good, and not interesting bad! Sounds like you're being pro-active in finding another job already, and maybe this will be the extra incentive you need to succeed. I hope it all works out for you no matter what happens!

9  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Week of 25th April: Your week on: April 25, 2005, 02:20:50 pm
Administrative Professionals Week for our US users, and Professional Secretaries Week for those in the UK, is about appreciation. We’d like you to show your appreciation for the PAs that you work with, or give yourself a big pat on the back this week.

Do you know someone who is a great PA? Tell us the one thing that you appreciate about them. Or maybe you think you're the best admin you know - tell us why you are so great!

Countrigal was spot on with this one. Raj, our tech expert, told me that the only thing he can see that could be causing this problem is that your PC is set to either block cookies, or clear them out every time you leave a site. There's nothing we can do from this end I'm afraid

I've not heard of this problem before Gee, but let me ask our techs to look into it.
