Bridget:

I am not familiar with COBRA law, but can't you extend COBRA for 6 months if you leave you current job?  Or is COBRA not available for employees who voluntarily leave a job?

According to my boss, who has worked in finance for way too many years by his account, $25M would be $25,000 and $25MM would be $25,000,000 (either of which would make wonderful lottery winnings!)

He thinks it has something to do with the Roman numerals, as M would be 1000.  Therefore MM would be M times M, which would be 1,000 times 1,000, which equals a million.

3  General Discussion / Topical Climates / Re: Do you have a problem with Celine Dion Singing on: August 16, 2002, 06:26:26 pm
While I don't particularly care for her music (I'm more of a classic rock/oldies kind of person) I do know that she did a spectacular job singing it.  I remember crying when I heard it because despite the fact that she wasn't born here, you could still hear the emotion in her voice singing it.

And I don't have a problem with her, or anybody else from a different country, singing it.  Why can't somebody from another country celebrate and sing of America just as much as someone who was born and raised here?  Did these same people have a problem when Queen Elizabeth sang the words of our National Anthem after 9/11?  I hope not, because I can't think of many things that were more comforting than knowing we, as a country, weren't alone on our grief last year.

I think I would have run from the house screaming!

One of the managers here once told me a story of staying late one night, and hearing faint, but piercing screams coming from one side of the floor, intermittently.  Since he was pretty freaked, he called security.  They came up, heard it, couldn't figure it out.

The culprit, after much sitting, waiting for the sound and following it whenever it happened:

A screen saver from "The Shining"!

What a sight it must have been!

but I do know that when he gets going, my bossman can type faster than I can!

Just my two cents...

If this was really part of the job, and these admins knew that, then I don't really see a problem.  Everyone has different ideas of what the job of an admin entails, and if they're willing to do it, more power to them.

7  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / We have three... on: March 09, 2001, 10:32:24 am
Our firm uses:

PrimeTime Transportation - 800-282-3227

MinuteMen - 800-345-6636

Empire - 888-239-6100

I've never had problems with any of them in the three years I have been here.  We have corporate accounts and they can break down usage by cost center.

Hope this helps!
8  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / I love being an admin! on: May 29, 2001, 10:20:12 am
I have been asked quite a few times by people I work with why I don't move on to the next level (whatever they may perceive that to be for me).  I always tell them the same thing - I love being in Administration.  I have everything I could ask for in my position.  I have the flexibility to try new things.  I am able to pitch in where needed.  I am able to speak for my boss when needed.  I have the voice of my boss, without the back-breaking responsibilities that go with his job.  I have a group of people who can count on me and have the faith that I can do just what they need me to do.

I don't begrudge people who want to move on to bigger and better things than being an Admin.  But for me, this is my bigger and better thing.  It's not settling for being an Admin, it's working up to being THE ADMIN .  For me, that is success in my career.
9  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: RE: Pens on: May 04, 2001, 08:04:56 am
I love plain old fashioned pencils - guess it reminds me of childhood.  As far as pens, I use Papermate Flexigrip Ultra - PURPLE.  I know it's not the most professional pen color in the world.  (For anything seen outside the department, I use the great Papermate blue stick pens).  The purple pens are great for two reasons: I can always tell if a note on something is my jotting or someone else's AND it's VERY easy to tell who stole my pen (I have a lot of pen kleptomaniacs here)!!
