I did my first mail merge!

I learned how to do it a while back but never had a good reason to actually do a mail merge on my own until now.

I have a huge meeting next week so I took my attendee list and sent e-mails to everyone with their hotel check in/out dates and confirmation number.  Everyone was asking me how long it took me to send personalized e-mails to 250 people and just about fell over when I told them it took about 3 minutes.

Hurray! How exciting to have actually been able to use an advanced function that you had learned about ahead of time.

You were prepared when an opportunity arrived. That wouldn't have happened if you hadn't learned about mail merges ahead of time. This is why lifelong learning is so critical. It may not help you at this exact moment, but you can file it away to use in the future.

Don't forget the additional kudos for seeming to do the impossible in three minutes and certainly don't give them enough details that they could do it themselves.  After all that would reduce your function in their eyes and you wouldn't get to do all sorts of exciting stuff (does that sound a bit Star Trek with Scotty telling the Captain a job would take 24hrs but for him he can do it in 5 minutes? - eeek!)

Well done on impressing the attendees with your knowledge and dexterity!

Congrats on being able to use a skill that you've picked up along the way... and used it to "wow" folks who thought it was an impossible task.  That's the greatest feeling... to know you can do something that most folks think would be too time consuming, and do it in a lot less time than anyone expects.  Kind of like the magician pulling the rabbit out of the hat.  Like a previous poster stated... don't give too many of your secrets out, as you always want that "wow" factor in your job, but definitely share with your peers who might also benefit from such an ability.  Hopefully you'll influence them and they'll work to learn this skill, or others, so that they too can be the "wow" person.

Treat yourself to a celebratory pat on the back, and perhaps even a drink (of your preference) since it is Friday.

congrats on using mail merge! when i learned it in school i thought i was one of the most confusing things to learn. but now that i have done them a couple times, i cannot believe the time i am saving.
