Do you send out thank you notes?  This can be for cv/resumes, for work related issue, to friends?

What do you have to say about thank you notes?

Yes....after interviews, after my 40th birthday (as friends who turned up were very generous and bought gifts)....whatever is appropriate.

Always, be it for interviews, gifts, social occasions, invitations (even if you cannot attend) etc.  It is common courtesy and shows that time and consideraiton have been put into the thank you, making it mean something in an era where everyone is too busy to say thank you, never mind mean it!

There is no excuse for bad manners.

But of course!  I send thank-you notes for gifts, meals, weekends, holidays, interviews, parties, business contacts etc.

Courtesy costs nothing or, in the case of a thank-you note, very little other than paper or a card, a bit of time and a postage stamp.

Yes, I send thank you notes for gifts, when we stay with friends or family and for business reasons.  I wrote thank you notes to my bosses for their generous Christmas gifts.  I will admit that I needed to google Emily Post for proper wording!  For example if the gift was money, I did not know not to write what was purchased, but thank the giver for their generosity.

I spend about an hour a day writing thank you letters. I work for a high profile chef who receives lots of letters on all osrts of different subjects and I ensure that each and everyone is replied to in a personal way.

Yes, I write thankyou notes.  I was always taught that it good manners to send a thank you.  My kids do it too.  I taught them when they were young to send them.  I am surprised at the number of people who don't send them anymore.

There are some of us who post here who will, no doubt, remember the Boxing Day ritual.

Boxing Day (26 December for people Stateside) was the day decreed in my childhood for Thank You Notes, and sure enough, between lunch and tea there we were, labouring over our thank-you notes, writing in our very best, joined-up, handwriting on paper ruled with lines.  

Absolute torture when you are six and just want to play with your Christmas toys or build snowmen outside, but jolly good training for the future!

Yes, I always send thank you note for business and/or personal occasions.

I always send a thank you note.  After an interview, I will hand write a nice note card to a woman, type a formal letter to a man.  I send one after any gift I receive, mentioning the gift (nothing generic) and after any thoughtful event from someone.

Well, all I can say is: either we are all frightfully polite in here or the person who never sends thank-you notes is too chicken to post a response .
