Unavoidable meeting

From today's blog of the BBC Radio 4 current affairs programme PM:
"[International Development Secretary] Hillary Benn will not be appearing on the programme. His department agreed to our request for an interview about cluster bombs in Lebanon and Darfur. Then, half an hour before the interview was due to take place, his department said it would not happen as promised due to:
"an unavoidable meeting in his diary".
Once again, that's
"an unavoidable meeting in his diary"."
Have you ever been given unintentionally hilarious excuses? Have you been forced to improvise excuses in your job? What happened? Where you embarrassed?
