Dutch Gold
Dutch Gold is an alloy of copper and zinc which is gold in colour and often passed off as gold to unsuspecting dealers. In the 1500s, the Dutch were both military and trading rivals of England. It was very common for the English to refer to the Dutch in derisory fashion and a surprising number of the phrases continue to be used nearly 400 years later.
