Dear Readers
Dear Readers Welcome to the March edition of DeskDemon Express! This issue we're looking into smart schmoozing - how to treat those special clients and hard-working colleagues so well that they'll never want to do business with or work for anyone else, ever! Well, that's the theory…! But these days, with a little imagination you can organise a host of very different events and activities which will underline your organisation's commitment to quality and creativity. We give you some pointers…

John Hancock starts us off with some tips on making your corporate hospitality days a success, as well as offering us a profile of the new activities in this area. The UK has a rich heritage of sporting and cultural events and venues, which are perfect for creating a special day. And some of our most ancient and wonderful venues have recently had to overcome some tricky obstacles, as the Disability Discrimination Act requires them to ensure their facilities give access to all. We look at how some famous venues have risen to the challenge, and how others simply haven't!

Meanwhile, Ian Boughton investigates a growing trend in the team-building arena - using your time and energy to help others. He explains how some firms are now insisting that their team-building activities have a charity or community focus, and looks at some of the ways company morale has been given a huge boost by giving something back to others.

Of course, gifts are still a popular way to send your thanks, or best wishes, or congratulations to clients and colleagues alike. But if you don't think beforehand about how your recipients are going to be sent their presents, you can come unstuck! Sara Goodwins offers some thoughts on gifts you can post, and how to make sure they arrive in one piece.

We also have some top tips on making sure your party goes with a swing from the ultimate source of party expertise, the good-time gurus behind the RSVP show. Don't miss their advice for a swinging event. And if you're involved in entertaining clients with corporate hospitality activities this year, you won't want to miss the expert guidance from First Protocol on ways to impress your guests.

And don't miss this issue's "Sound Off!" from Katharine Fleck, an admin assistant in the Midlands. She's got quite a lot she wants to get off her chest!

Have a good month! See you in April, when we'll be celebrating the contribution of today's secretaries and PAs to the businesses and organisations of UK plc.

All the best

Penny
