Dear Readers
Happy New Year! The team at DeskDemon Express would like to wish you all the very best for 2005, both in your personal, and in your professional life. Many of you will be thinking of taking that bold and exciting leap into a new job; while other readers will be responsible for recruiting you into that wonderful new job. So to give you some help, whatever your involvement with job-hunting and staff-hunting, we thought we'd devote this issue to the subject of recruitment, and we have some excellent articles for you packed with advice. We also have two new features this issue: an up-to-the-minute look at the new products, services, offers and events from DeskDemon's own website, and "Sound Off!", where we invite readers to tell us how it really is!

We're delighted to present to you one of the most exciting career planning tools for PAs - the brand new My Career service from DeskDemon. Whatever stage of career planning you're at, you'll find valuable advice and guidance in this unique interactive service. See Sally Longson's article explaining just how this easy-to-use tool can help you move your career forward.

For those of you with itchy feet, we have several articles to give you some tips. If you're looking at updating your CV, why not try a web CV? All the rage in the States, we take a look at what's involved. And, still in the cyber world, Karen Mannering has some solid advice about launching your job search online.

If you want to know where women staff have equal opportunities and salaries, and which firms truly believe in flexible working and the advancement of women, check out Hedwig Wurzer's article on the Aurora service, "Where women want to work". Through this unique service, you can find out from women working in a huge variety of firms, what it's really like to be a woman in that company. And once you've got the job offers coming in, you'll find the advice from leading recruiters OfficeTeam will help you make the right choice.

And for those of you recruiting and interviewing, don't miss Sara Goodwins' no-nonsense feature on today's interviewing practice. Get it wrong, and you could end up in very hot water, so read her guidance and be prepared. And if you're looking for more staff to boost your PA team, top PA Lee Morrissey offers a thought-provoking piece on ways to make sure you get the right person for the job. Once you have a great new team member recruited, make sure you treat them well from day one! Ian Boughton explains the importance of first impressions - on both sides!

And new this issue, in what will be a regular slot, is a look at the exciting new products, services, events and offers going on at the DeskDemon site itself. This round-up of info, provided by DeskDemon's own UK editor Clare Bodel, will mean you never miss out on happenings at deskdemon.com.

Feel like having a rant? Got something to get off your chest? Or maybe you're really impressed by something or someone? I'm looking for a PA each month, to let me in on their real feelings on certain subjects for the new "Sound Off!" feature. Check out the "Sound Off!" slot on the home page, and whizz me an email - it's your chance to tell it how it really is!

Have a good month!

Penny
