Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the July issue of What's New at DeskDemon.

Now that all the sporting excitement of the World Cup and Wimbledon is behind us, we can all calm down and concentrate on work - oh hang on, the Commonwealth Games starts tonight! We here at DeskDemon wish everyone in Glasgow a wonderful, successful event.?

It's also that time of year when you can register for office* 2014 - the UKs largest event dedicated to PAs and Office Professionals. It takes place in London on 7 and 8 October - and it's free to attend! Click here to register now.

Our articles this month focus on dealing with grief at work, flexible working rights and working with a Queen Bee! We also review Celebrity PA, Donna Coulling's e-book - The Chamber of Celebrity PA Secrets.

Wishing you a wonderful July.
Best wishes, Alison Pedrick

Grief in the Workplace
The workplace is like your second family to many people. Let's face it, some people spend more time at work than with their immediate families!
The effects of grief from the loss of a loved one has a bigger effect on the workplace than might be imagined.

The Chamber of Celebrity PA Secrets Review
If you've ever wondered how Celebrity PAs get their jobs, what the job might entail or even want to be a Celebrity PA - then this e-book should be top of your must-read list.
Written by Donna Coulling, PA to four celebrities, Donna's lifts the lid (diamond encrusted, of course, darling) in The Chamber of Celebrity PA Secrets.

The Right to Request Flexible Working
Flexible working - the law changed on 30 June.
All employees who have worked for an organisation for more than 26 weeks now have the right to request flexible working arrangements.

Do You Work with a Queen Bee in Your Office?

I love this term - Queen Bee! It's used to describe an 'alpha woman' who does not want any female competition swarming around her! Essentially, The Queen Bee describes a woman - in a position of authority - who uses that power to preserve their territory.
