Great Britain’s largest group of independent hotels, Best Western, has today launched The Jewel in the Crown initiative, to recognise its members of staff who go the extra mile for guests.
The scheme has been developed to empower Best Western Rewards members, to pick the jewels in the Best Western crown and identify exceptional employees within the hotel group.
The initiative will advise Best Western’s Rewards customers that they have been selected to “find the jewels in Best Western’s crown”, during their stay.
The selected Rewards members will be sent a voucher that they can give to members of staff who they feel have exceeded their expectations during their stay.
The member of staff can then redeem their voucher to collect their Best Western Rewards points.
The staff member selected as a ‘jewel’ will then be sent a jewel pin badge and the hotel will also receive a plaque that can be displayed on reception to showcase the scheme and accolade.
Keith Pope, Managing Director of Best Western said, “We have launched this initiative to recognise our staff who are going above and beyond to make our guests feel at home, as we regularly receive excellent feedback from guests. We are known for our excellent customer service and wanted to say thank you and reward our staff.
“As every Best Western hotel is individual and full of its own personality, this initiative ties in with our brand values, and allows us to reward our staff members for showing their personality.”
The pilot programme commences on 1st October 2012 and will run across six selected hotels for three months, with only Rewards customers. The selected hotels are:

BEST WESTERN PLUS Orton Hall Hotel, Peterborough
BEST WESTERN Braid Hills Hotel, Edinburgh
BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel, York
BEST WESTERN Cheltenham Regency Hotel, Cheltenham
BEST WESTERN Mornington Hotel, London
