Office worker's 'average day' revealed by survey

The survey of 2,000 employees found that the average office employee will arrive at work by 8.09am and spend nine hours and 13 minutes at work with a 28 minute lunch break at their desk.

Led by Mars Drinks, the research also highlighted that most workers spend just over 10 minutes a day on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and about the same amount of time doing their online banking and shopping.

Computer breakdowns were found to be the one thing that office staff get most annoyed about followed by colleagues who do not make their fair share of tea and coffee for co-workers.

Employees were also irritated by missing stationery and coffee machine break-downs.

Jenni Morgan, of Mars Drinks UK, said: “Our results show that we are working longer hours than ever before but this has not dented our enjoyment of the job.”

She added: “It is also very interesting to learn that we are, on the whole, a very agreeable lot who prefer to get along with colleagues and bosses rather than spend the day arguing and moaning.”

An earlier survey carried out by recruitment specialist Robert Walters found that over 70% of UK professionals work over 40 hours a week and 50% of staff feel that spending three to five years in the same job is more than enough.
