I've just found this site and find it really interesting for both my job and my English, 'cos ,as you've probably realised, I'm not from an English speaking country.
I'm Spanish and  work as a secretary for a small company. Although when they first hired me they asked for a person with an upper-intermediate level of English, up to now I had never had to speak it. Now we've got some English customers so I'm afraid I will be disturbing you with all my doubts with English.
Here goes the first one:
When talking to someone on the phone yesterday, he asked me for the company e-mail address. I didn't know how to say '@' in English, I hope he understood in the end...

Your written english is very good indeed and certainly I wish my Spanish were as good.

With regard to your question '@' is quite simply 'AT'!

Thank you very much for your answers. And thanks for telling me that my English is good. I live in  Spain and I have been studying English for some years.  Seven years ago I went to London to improve my English and I worked as an 'Au Pair' there.  At that time I had an Irish boyfriend for a short time (I think this is the best way to learn a foreign language, don't you?)

Living in a foreign country is by far the best way to learn the language, I lived in Holland as a child and went to a dutch school, within only a few months we (me and my sisters) could speak it fluently, unfortunately a lot is now forgotten.  

How did you get on with the Irish accent?

Where in Spain do you live?  My mother lives in Ducquesa near Sotogrande on the south coast.

I live on the northwest coast of Spain, in a region called Galicia. It's quite different from the south or the Mediterranean coast, it's not as sunny and hot but it's quite green.
As for the Irish accent, I found it difficult to understand at first but got used to it, and now I think Irish accent is really nice, I find it sexy (I suppose that's because it reminds me of my ex-boyfriend).

I'd have to second the opinion that the Irish accent is sexy... and I've never had a boyfriend with it.  Just one of those accents that simply is sexy to me.

As stated, your English is very good and I'm sure you have no problem communicating with your English-speaking customers.  But at any time you have a question, pop in here and ask away.  That's why we're here, to help one another.

The actual name for the symbol is "amphora" but it stands for "at" (as previously mentioned)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that an Irish accent is sexy. I think it's one of the more beautiful sounds in this world!
