We didn't win, which was no big surprise, but I felt like a winner to be sitting with all of those who were nominated and were the nominators. The House of Blues was interesting, though not as interesting as the people that were there. Saw one bit actor that I recognized (looks like the actor who plays Captain Brikard (sp?) from Star Trek). Larry King was the guest MC and Andrea got to shake his hand, stand with him, etc. The money went to a well-deserving guy who is just a sweetheart, he's donating his $10,000 to cancer research and to help kids with cancer (his cause).
I ended up wearing my black 2-piece outfit, which I had lots of compliments on though Andrea and I both felt a bit overdressed. Seems everyone else was told dressy professional, but oh well, I looked like a star. I didn't wear the cape because it was too warm, and lucky I didn't because there was no place to leave it where it wouldn't be in the way during the evening.
My flight back was uneventful except for all the storms we had to fly through -- not fun for this flyer. I didn't get bumped to first class on any flight, no matter what I tried (including the "but sir, I am scared to death of flying. I'm a poor country gal from Alabama.") but I had friendly seatmates which helped. Also, the first flight, from LA to Houston, was pretty nice because we were on the newest editions to their league of planes. Each seat had their own video screen (located on the back of the seat ahead of you) and you had choices on what movie(s) to watch, or a tv show (from selected choices), or games to play, or radio stations to listen to. It was nice, actually made me enjoy that flight pretty well. Got to watch a good movie (and not the same one I watched on the way out!), had a burger for a meal, and played some computer games until time for landing.
More information will be forthcoming after I've had a chance to regroup from my LA experience. Andrea made it to London with a hair-raising experience in Atlanta that she handled like the pro she is and I'm sure once things settle down on her end she'll catch everyone up with her trip.
But it was great to meet all of y'all, both in Atlanta and in LA. I think that was one of the best experiences in the whole thing. Only thing better was meeting the 2 stars that I had pics taken with at the airport the day I flew out. I'm terrible with names, but I''ll have pics to share soon. One of the guys is from LA Law and Happy Gilmore, the other is from Grease 2. Both were extremely approachable, friendly, and sat and talked with Renee (another AD nominee) and I after taking the pics. Overall, a really complete LA experience.
