Title: From chaos comes calm and needs are met...
Post by: andrea843 on July 24, 2001, 03:07:30 pm
Many of you know my feelings about certain subjects, or think you do. But there's something that needs saying here.  The CPS thread is just about to top 100 responses, not all of them pleasant, not all of them constructive, a TAA Record.

But the end result will be the needs of some of our members being met.  That is now, and will continue to be the Goal of The Admin Authority. Do not for one instant think that we do not hear you, do not for one instant think your needs as Admins and peers are not important to us on the TAA staff.  You are why we're here in the first place

The new forum for Admins studying for CPS/CAP certification and wishing to have some online interaction with others goes up on Monday next. May it be all that you had hoped and may it help you who chose to use it. The editorial board and I will commit TAA resources to making it a useful tool and we will brook no flames, no ugliness and no dissention, save that dissention which is sometimes the natural outgrowth of the educational subjects being discussed.

This forum, yet to be named will be a neutral place, for study questions and interaction related to those endeavors.  TOS will be strictly enforced and anyone, anyone who violates the sanctity of this study area with flames pro or con regarding IAAP, CPS or any other issue will be dealt with in the harshest manner TOS will allow.

Those of you who have achieved certification are encouraged to mentor those who seek it, and those who seek certifications for whatever reasons, are encouraged to make use of the full array of talent that visits these boards on a daily basis.

Trust me, the phrase  play nice or play elsewhere has never ever meant more than it does when it comes to this forum.

Zac, Energizer and Nola, expect some email from us probably tomorrow once your moderator powers are in place and the working title of the forum is arrived at.

Title: Andrea, you are amazing

I don't know what's involved in web work, but I'm soooo impressed that you can get something set up for us in a week or less!  NOTHING moves that fast in the business world (at least not in mine!).

As far as the value of the CPS/CAP ratings, I can tell you that I earned my CPS rating in 1997 and have had to explain it every place I worked and interviewed at.  People in my community don't know what it means, but when I explain what we studied and what we have to do to recertify, they're impressed.

It was a huge boost to my self-esteem to get the rating.  It did wonders for my self-confidence, for my motivation, and lit a fire in me to continue to better myself.  I am active in my IAAP chapter and have even begun giving presentations at the Chamber of Commerce and companies.  This is totally different from the super-shy me of 4 years ago; I don't recognize myself sometimes.

If you're going to study for a certification (or degree), do it because you really want to, not just because you think it will get you more money.

Best of luck to everyone who is going to go for it!

Elaine

Ditto Andrea!

I'd also like to make a comment on the overall tone set in the aforementioned discussion.  There were those of you who set out to inform, to be informed, and share ideas... that was great to see.  Then there were those of you who kept bringing the group back onto track.  Hats off to you too!  Anytime there is a topic close to the hearts of anyone there will be raised voices, but it didn't escalate as much as I've seen in the past and that is due to all of the posters.  Posters realised things were misunderstood, tried to correct it (edited when necessary) and have provided a discussion that others can read and query on this topic.  And to have a forum come from such a discussion is great to see.

Great job to everyone!

Yeah CG. I agree.  It seems like we were in labor pain giving birth to our new "baby forum".  Passing out my virtual cigars.

I just love happy endings . . . . errrr . . . . beginnings?

Title: I'm Happy to See This...
Post by: msgladiator on July 27, 2001, 03:45:11 pm
Andrea, I'm proud of you for seeing that you do have a multitude of different viewpoints here at The Admin Authority and that to make it a true community you need to satisfy the needs of all of your members.  I'm proud that you did answer z's question that originally started that post and I'm proud of the way you answered it.  No doubt IAAP is and continues to be the largest and most established organization for the "admin" profession and the CPS/CAP is the highest designation.  Yes, your feelings about the subject are known and you should be commended for putting those feelings aside and being fair to all of your posters at your site and creating a neutral area for those who wish to pursue the subject.  That shows growth as a leader.  It's good to see.

Andrea and the rest of TAA staff, thank you for your support!  I consider you all an inspiration to be the best I can possibly be (sounds corny but...).  Basically I'm just trying to say that I really admire all that you've accomplished and it's made me realize that being an admin is nothing to be ashamed of.

MsG ...

As Team Leader, I have watched these CPS / IAAP threads with great interest, and great trepidation.

Of course, as career-minded men and women, all on this site enjoy the give and take of knowledge, advice, and rapport we have built.

I'm sure Disallusioned was simply pointing out what many have noticed, many posts have been taken badly, or caused insult.  See the thread in Cafe Admin, a give and take between myself and laundryhater, where it all panned out.

Perhaps this situation is a simple reminder that we should all double- and triple- check our wording of posts, so as to not show condescension, arrogance, or insult.

Peace ...

Title: For want of an IR.
Post by: andrea843 on July 30, 2001, 02:47:26 pm
Ms. G. your post should have perhaps read :"and the CPS/CAP is theIR highest designation." Further baiting,  further flames on this subject by ANY poster will not be tolerated, please refer to TOS should you have any questions or feel free to email me rather than one of the moderator staff with your concerns at

andrea@administrative-assistants.com.

Im tired of having to play referee, and equally tired of the mountain of email certain comments by some posters have generated.  Enough! Posters can and WILL be banned based on the emailed complaints of members.

Please be advised that further disruption of these forums with more meaningless non constructive postings, will result in an immediate three day ban of the poster perhaps several of you need the opportunity to step back and view your comments as seen by others without having the ability to be argumentative. (it's very hard to argue with only yourself as an audience, hence the adoption of the three day ban in our early planning days).

Regards to all, and stop emailing me to complain about snide postings puuuuleassse!
