Title: What hours do you work
Post by: galaxyblue on May 26, 2004, 10:55:51 pm
Evening everyone,

So, spill the beans, what are your contracted hours and do you ever work outside of your hours? Do you get paid overtime.

My hours are 9:15 - 5pm and as of yet I haven't had to stay late or come in early.

I work in legal - quite long hours - 8:00am to 7:00pm.

One day I shall get a life.

My contracted hours are 9-5 with an hour lunch.

Am always in by 8.15 but make sure I take my full lunch hour every day
Don't tend to stay any later than 5.30 (just clearing things up) unless it's urgent.

I'm usually at my desk for 8.30 altho contracted hours are 9-5.30pm.  Very often I am at my desk until 5.30 or after depending on how busy I am.

I get an hour for lunch but only leave my desk to go out at lunchtimes out about once or twice a week.  That means I prob work an extra hour each day sitting at my desk doing things I shouldn't!

9-5 with an hour for lunch.  Can't really work much beyond five, as the building is locked and alarms set.

I do tend to be in early (8.30) so will leave a bit early to avoid the rush.

There will come times when I do have to work beyond, and the boss is very good about these - tells me to come in late, or go home early in lieu.  Also, if there is nothing doing (and I do get those sort of days occasionally) he'll tell me to go home early as well.  I am a very lucky Catsmeat!

Being self employed I have no contract - except with myself!  I generally start about 9.30 in the morning (this is the outside 'job) which is generally 4 hours per day.  When I get home again, I usually work on whatever's going until it's done, or until I reach a suitable point to stop - I like to stop at a 'chapter end' or something equivalent.

I generally finish around 7 pm, so quite a long day and lunch is kind of on the go.  I also sometimes work extra in the evenings, and at weekends, where it's necessary - ie necessary for me and where it suits, so that I can maybe do something else in the other time...

I work 8.30am - 4.30pm with half an hour for lunch, but I am normally in by 8.15am latest or even earlier if my boss has an early morning meeting, even though he doesn't ask me to come in early, but I like to be about incase he needs anything.  I try to finish at 4.30pm but occasionally its 5pm or 5.30pm and in one instance it was 7pm.

At my sort of appraisal a few weeks back when i got told about my payrise he did actually say that he had noticed that I do work more than my normal contracted hours - its great that he takes notice and i don't have to point things out to him

Contracted hours are 9 am - 5 pm with an hour for lunch.  Usually in between 8.40 and 8.50 (dependent on traffic!!) and leave between 5 and 5.15 pm.

However I am flexible about my hours, especially when my boss is in.  So sometimes I can come in earlier and leave anything between 5 and 7 pm.  I try to get Time In Lieu when it suits if I do OT, for instance I took an afternoon off to go and pick up my parents at the airport recently when they came to visit.  So that way I didn't have to take 0.5 day's holiday!

My lunch can vary as well - I take up to an hour anytime between 12 pm and 2 pm.

Contracted to work Monday to Friday - 35 hours per week on a flexi system, with core hours of 10 am - 4 pm.  You can start at 8.00 am til 7.00 pm.  Lunch you can take from 30 minutes to 2 hours.  In a 4 week period you are allowed to carry over equivalent of 21 hours (3 days) which you can then take with agreement with your line manager.  This does not affect your annual leave entiltement and don't work on public holidays. For Christmas we close at 2.00 pm Christmas eve or last working day before - then we open first working day after New Year.  These extra days aren't again part of annual leave!

My hours are 7:30 to 4:00 with 1/2 hour for lunch.  I'm usually at my desk around 7:10 and almost always get off on time.  Every once in a while, something will come up to keep me a over a little bit, but the boss is good to let me go early the next day to make up for it.

In my position as Secretary to the Director, paid overtime is nonexistent.

My hours are also 7:30am - 4:00pm, with 1/2 hour for lunch.  I tend to be in the office between 7:15 and 7:40am, depending on traffic and getting the little one to daycare, but rarely leave any earlier than 4:30pm.  For the past month I've been here as late as 5:30pm after coming in at 7:00am, just trying to meet suspenses.  No overtime, no comptime, nothing for these hours -- not even the appreciation of my supervisor.  But at least I know the suspense is done and this is only for a limited time.  For some work I'll be granted OT, which I request as comptime so I can use it for taking my baby to his well-baby appts and save my sick leave, but that has to be for extra projects that are not part of my daily work and has to be granted in advance which is hard to forecast sometimes.  And my lunch?  9 times out of 10 I eat at my desk, so even that 30 minute break is a working one.  I even use my 2 15 minute breaks a day to express for baby, and continue to work during that time too.  They definitely get their money's worth during the day, which is why I put my foot down at taking work home or at working past 5:30pm (and having to pay extra for daycare).

8:30 - 5:30 with one hour for lunch, which I usually take from 1-2 or 1:30 - 2:30.

Right now we're such a small shop, that bossie is quite flexible when the situation permits.  He lets me leave 1/2 hour earlier on my choir rehearsal night because the little ones rehearse at 6:30 and I wouldn't make it otherwise.  Although he works long hours himself (lots of after-hours events and such) he's quite understanding of the fact that, in his words, "We all have to have a life outside of work."  In fact, I lost two vacation days coming from my previous position.  When he found out, he insisted that I take two days sometime between now and the end of the fiscal year.  He was very concerned that I didn't short myself vacation time.

9:00 am to 5:00 pm, half hour for lunch.  I'm here at about 8:50 am and almost always leave right on time.  There are about 2 times per year that I will have to stay past 5:00 for a couple of nights to get everything done, one time being last week and the next probably in September.  Other than that, to be truthful, I have gotten my systems down so that I am pretty much bored to tears for the rest of the time I am here.  Also I am salaried (exempt) so no overtime for me.

My hours are 8 to 5 with an hour for lunch.  I am usually here at 7:30 and don't often have to work overtime.

Blimey, some of you ladies are contracted to do quite long hours - does it not bother you?

I worked in a position many years ago, 9-6 monday to friday and 9-1 on a saturday and I hated it.

I think I am very lucky with the hours I have got now, even tomorrow we are all allowed to leave an hour early because its a bank holiday monday (leave at four).

Of course, if needs require me to work late one night, or through my lunch etc I would do it, afterall, I think it is good to show flexibility.

6:45 to 3:45 with either 45 minutes or an hour for lunch.

Love it, since I can be home with my daughter early enough to watch Sesame Street "Elmo" rules! :)

My official hours are 8:30 to 5:30 with one hour for lunch, but I usually stay much later than that.  I'm salaried, so no overtime for me.  I rarely have to come in on a Saturday but it has happened when there is something pressing to be done.  I really don't mind much.  I tend to be very flexible on the time and so does my company.  They don't care much if I am here exactly at 8:30 (I'm usually not) and whether I take an hour or an hour and a half for lunch (or longer) and I really don't mind staying late much unless I have plans.  Its just a matter of getting the work done on time.  I don't need to cover phones for anyone (voicemail is a good thing) and I work independently, so it doesn't really matter to anyone when I get here or when I leave, so long as my work is done (and it is).

My official hours are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, with an hour for lunch.  I don't often manage to take a proper lunchbreak, other than a pit-stop to eat, and I have worked a lot of overtime (unpaid!) during my five years with my company.  However, I'm trying to improve on that.  I've just started studying and am being more organized about my time.  Except when I come in here .  This is my coffee-break, only I don't drink coffee much.

Coffee-break over.

I work 8 to 5 with an hour off for lunch.  I don't get overtime (salaried) but do work a lot of late nights now that we are extremely short-staffed.

I see a lot of people saying they work a 9 to 5 type shift with an hour lunch.  Does that mean you only work a 7 hour day or is your lunch hour paid?

My hours are 9:15 - 5 with an hour for lunch.... The lunch hour isn't paid, I think a lot of work places do not actually pay your lunch hour.

So that means I do a 6 3/4 hour day - which is 33 3/4 hour week. Is that right? Blimey - my brains gone dead

Officially 8 to 4, so that I'm accessible to the parents who come by for assistance before and after school.  In actuality I work a LOT of overtime, some of which I am paid for.

Well, when I started at this company 4 years ago in April the VP said he usually got to the office by 8:30 so anytime between 8 and 8:30 was good and it was an 8 hr day with one hour for lunch.  That VP left end of Dec and then I worked for two National Managers - one of who really wanted me to start at 7:30am....that did not fly for long - I am not a morning person.  Then the Director I went to work for was happy with the 8-8:30 routine.  And even when the new VP came on and I started to work for him the timing was ok....of course the 8 hours quickly became 9+ hours.....at least 5:30, if not 6+.  Now that the VP is the President/CEO and he is an early bird (frequently in at 6:30am)....he has asked me to stretch and make it in by 7:30 so we have time to regroup before each day....of course the tease was 'in early, out early'....yea right....it is still at least 5-6pm each day.  With summer here I am going to really work on getting out no later than 5pm.
