Title: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: susans on April 23, 2008, 05:53:56 pm How were you treated on admin prof day/office prof day? Did get you training? Lunch? Gifts? Share your experience this year.
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: mlm668 on April 23, 2008, 06:16:18 pm I was presently surprised when one of the Leaders I recently took over admin duties for invited me to lunch. This was a chance to get to know each other - especially considering how much he travels and our face to face interactions are few.

(It's been crazy around here and we've all been working through lunch just to keep up!) But I have to say the people I support are wonderful and a pleasure to work for. I'm very fortunate.

Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: spitfire78 on April 24, 2008, 03:07:54 pm Big bossie gave all 3 of us lovely fruit baskets - the kind where the fruit is arranged to look like a floral arrangement. Since I love fruit, this was just perfect. My boss didn't give me anything. I told her not to bother. She is so swamped right now. Besides that, she tells me and shows me many times throughout the year how much she appreciates my work. That means far more to me than a gesture on one day.
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: JessW on April 24, 2008, 04:44:18 pm My treat came through this lunch time - I got my marching orders - sorry, end of temp post after tomorrow, but we might call you next week! still, never mind. At least they are finally being decisive!
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: addieinnyc on April 24, 2008, 09:30:47 pm On the day, I got taken out to lunch by a few of the staff, The Day after (today), which is when my boss came back from London, the entire department that I support surprised me with a party! They gave me flowers, a card, a gift card, balloons, and ice cream cake! It was so nice.
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: peaches2160 on April 24, 2008, 11:08:13 pm I was pleasantly surprised yesterday by two of our employees who brought me flowers and a card.
My boss was traveling and did not mention it. Too much going on right now to even think about it really. Besides, he thanks me all of the time so I can't complain. Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: laurafmcdermott on April 25, 2008, 04:03:17 pm Pleasantly surprised with a gift card for a pedicure at a local spa from the three I support. Two of them are very good at showing me appreciation throughout the year anyway, but it was nice to have recognition (even as part of a group) from the third.

Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: JessW on April 27, 2008, 08:20:13 am Get well soon!
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: itsme_calista on April 27, 2008, 04:48:44 pm Thank you :) Hope to be going back tomorrow, but still feeling like I could stay in bed. I've just picked up that virus that's going round but I have a weak immune system and so it's hit me hard.
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: raindance on April 28, 2008, 09:43:40 am I'm not sure whether this special day is all that well-known here in the United Kingdom. I certainly haven't seen much about it in the secretarial, or even business, sections of the national newspapers. I think The Times ran a competition, but that's not the same thing as really "celebrating" the event.
I have had a couple of jobs in the (fortunately) distant past which were of the "come in and do as you are told" variety, but I consider that my current employers are excellent on the whole. My first manager and current manager in my company have always treated me with the utmost courtesy and friendliness, and certainly know how to thank people. We've always exchanged gifts for birthdays and Christmas, and we have a special lunch once or twice a year. I am also able to attend some prestigious events as an "ambassador" of my company. The latter may be because my post is one of the most senior of posts below Board level, but I still appreciate the way I am treated. I'm very lucky. Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: deskangel on April 28, 2008, 07:46:24 pm This year, nothing! I'm at a new company and I guess they just don't think of it here. But it's a pretty laid back environment, and they try to treat everyone fairly, from the CEO/founders down to the mail room guy, so I didn't expect to get special treatment.
The last couple of years, however, I worked for a different organization that treated me to flowers and cards on APD. Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: alanmarcinek on May 04, 2008, 09:06:17 pm I got taken out to lunch by the boss, got a card with a $35.00 bottle of wine, $150.00 AMEX Gift Cards. So a pretty good day.. Alan... Alexandria, VA USA
Title: Re: How did you get treated on APD or OPD Post by: adminbydesign on May 19, 2008, 07:26:38 pm My boss was at our main office the week of April 23rd, but he paid for me and our senior project manager to go to my IAAP Chapter's Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon. He also approved to pay for my registration, hotel room and other expenses to attend our IAAP Division Meeting at the end of May, which also means a day and a half out of the office as well. I also got a healthy raise (8%) at my review a couple of weeks ago, so I can't complain about much these days.
